A grandmother has been asked to rename her five-year-old cat because her new neighbors feel it is “offensive” and “misogynistic”.
The neighbours, who have a young child, insist that the name is inappropriate and demand that the 85-year-old change it or stop using it in public, reports Yorkshire Live.
The name itself is very odd but supposedly has a personal meaning – the woman’s granddaughter took to Reddit to explain.
“I’m (19f) writing this on behalf of my grandmother (85) because she has no clue how to work an iPhone,” she posted to the forum’s ‘Am I the A**hole?’ thread.
“My grandmother has a cat called “kitty sl*ts” the reason behind the name? He reminds her of my late grandfather, in her words ‘he’s slim with shiny black hair and loves to play happy family with any bi**h that gives him attention, especially that harlot down the road’.”
The woman claims her grandmother’s new neighbours moved in last December and she described them as a couple in their late 20s or early 30s, with a baby.
She claims they have since sent her gran “multiple anonymous letters” about her “inappropriate language”.
She continued: “[They] even tried to get other neighbours involved to try and talk to her about it which is how she found out about the letters. It came to a head today when the mom was feeding the baby in the back yard and my grandmother called the cat to come in so I could drive her to Asda.
“The mom yelled over the fence for my grandmother to stop saying the cat’s name because it was a misogynistic word.”
She said an hour later the neighbours went to her gran’s house and told her she would need to change the cat’s name.
The woman explained: “About an hour ago they came to her house and asked her to change her cat’s name (he’s 5 years old btw) because it’s misogynistic and offensive towards women.”
The woman’s gran said no but was then hit by the neighbor telling her that her back garden is the only place she feels safe breastfeeding and the offensive name was causing her to feel unsettled.
I have a feral cat with very long hair I call him Hairy Pussy which cracks everyone up as it’s a male
Tis neighbor mustn’t watch too many things on the telly, or go to movies. She needs to buy a set of ear buds and use them.
Again – too bad she’s already reproduced.
Earplugs, problem solved. Grandma isn’t responsible for the woman’s sensibilities, plus you can’t change an animal’s name after it’s set.
Change the cats name to Little Shit, because that’s exactly what the neighbor
is being. Then she can hear that in her backyard and she won’t know that she’s being called a little shit!
If this woman feels this way she should seek serious help. What a sad group of people who think that if something offends or hurts their feelings people must change to make them feel better. Seriously this crazy woman feels safer in a garden than in her house? What a wack job.
Is it offensive? Probably to some people. But is it anyone else’s business what she names her pet? Nope. People really need to get over trying to run other people’s lives.
I do not know what Englands free speech rights are. However, here in the U.S. the neighbor would have no legal right to force your Grandmother to rename the cat.
If the neighbor doesn’t like to hear the name she can go in her house and shut the door. Live and let live don’t be so thin skinned. I think it’s funny because of the story behind the name.😂🤣
To set the record straight – Free Speech is guaranteed by our Constitution in matters of the government prohibiting you from expressing your views. It has nothing to do with what you can or should say in public. “You can not yell fire in a crowded theater”.
And certain things shouldn’t be said in public for decorum’s sake.
That being said, the neighbor should buy some earbuds or stay inside, if hearing the cat’s name offends her. Safe place, indeed!
And the sad thing – she’s already reproduced. Yay! 🙁
