Original Article – A Florida sheriff’s deputy is being lauded on social media for pulling off an animal rescue while changing someone’s flat tire at a convenience store.
It happened in Brooksville, about 50 miles north of Tampa.
“While Deputy L. Janezic was at a local Speedway gas station … a citizen noticed what sounded like a cat coming from her engine,” the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a May 16 Facebook post.
“Deputy Janezic looked in the engine bay of the woman’s car to find two kittens trapped inside. Both kittens were rescued, all while Deputy Janezic was still changing a tire in the same parking lot for another citizen.”
A photo shows the kittens appeared to be just weeks old. Their fate was not revealed.
Meanwhile, Janezic “returned to responding to calls for service after a busy time in this parking lot.”
The Facebook post reporting the rescue had garnered nearly 8,000 reactions and comments within 24 hours, including reports the kittens were adopted by someone working at the store.
Most of the commenters praised Janezic, who joined the department in December 2020.
“This is why police officers are trained for multi tasking. … You just never know when you will have to change a tire and save two kittens all at the same time,” Leanne Gagnon Walsh wrote on Facebook.
“Super woman,” Amber Kettering posted. “You rock ma’am.”
“This is the definition of serving and protecting,” Martin McFly said.
Quite a busy, but happy-busy, day for Deputy Janezic !
